What is Acrylic & Silicone rendering?

The biggest advantage of using Acrylic & Silicone rendering on the exterior of your home is the fact that it is so much less likely to crack over time due to its flexibility. This means that you don’t have to worry about the natural expansion and contraction of your home causing unsightly hairline cracks throughout your render.

Acrylic & Silicone rendering is incredibly attractive and it can be applied in a range of ways, allowing you to create different finishes. You could opt for a finish that is smooth just like concrete, or attractively textured. Another benefit of Acrylic & Silicone rendering is that it can be applied to a range of substrates including painted walls, concrete, timber, fibre cement and so on. Traditional render simply cannot stick to these surfaces.

Acrylic & Silicone render is also incredibly fast drying, taking just a few days to cure instead of up to a month like traditional render. Another advantage is that it allows the material underneath to “breathe”, allowing for a drier and healthier home. At the same time, it is also water resistant and will not succumb to bacteria and fungi.

How is Acrylic & Silicone Installed?

External wall pull test

The first step before beginning the thin coat render installation process in Ilkley, is to carry out a render or brick pull test. This will identify whether the existing render or brick is strong enough to support the thin coat system. If the render is strong enough, it can simply be smoothed off so that the new thin coat system can be applied directly onto it. If the render is not strong enough, all existing render will need to be removed prior to the installation of the new thin coat system.

Remove and adjust pipework

Once the render has been tested and smoothed down or removed as appropriate, all pipework must be removed from the building before the installation process can begin. Temporary downpipes must also be installed to prevent water from running down the side of the building and any waste pipes or soil pipes should either be removed or extender away from the walls – this would allow the building to function as normal during the installation process.

Protect Windows

Before any of the render work is carried out we will also fit a protective layer or film over your windows and doors, which will prevent them from being damaged during the installation process.

Adding beading

Before the first coat of render is applied, all corner beads and stop beads will be fitted where necessary. As it is great way to ensure the thin coat system remains secure and tight around windows, doors and other obstructions, creating neat and tight edge.

Adding reinforcing mesh and render

Once the beads have all been installed, the first coat can be applied with the strengthening reinforced mesh cloth that will stop any cracks or movement in the building.

Final coat

A 10mm coat of dash receiver is then applied over the reinforced mesh coat being trowel finished to give a flat surface ready for dashing. Once a decent area has been spread the pebbles will be applied the traditional way using a bucket and shovel.

Reinstall pipework

Now all the pipework and other fixtures that were originally removed from the walls can be reinstalled, and all openings where pipework extends through the render should be sealed.
